Part #3 The Best Bike Trails in Australia’s Coastal Regions

Hit the Track, Jack!!

Our top picks on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Byron Bay

Over the past couple of months, we have been featuring our top picks on the best rides in Australia. Yep!! We have been getting out and about!

Here are our Top Top rides on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Byron Bay.

Byron Bay

There is nothing more beautiful than green rolling hills on a beautiful blue sky day, which is exactly what this ride is all about.

Byron Bay is one of Australia's jewels, home to a relaxed beachside lifestyle, surfers, hippies, and locals. With roots deeply embedded with our first nations people, Byron has all the ingredients of an excellent healthy time thrown into the mix.

For sure, Byron is home to some of the most breathtaking views and even better when you are on an Ezriderz ebike.

Our favourite bike trail starts in the scenic seaside village of Brunswick Heads (just north of Byron Bay), where you embark on a 27 km ride to finish up at the lighthouse on the most easterly point in Australia in Byron Bay. This ride embodies all of what is good about Byron.

Ride on dirt roads through Mullumbimby, through the lush green hills of Myocum, the back roads of Ewingsdale, and pick up a coffee on the way at The Farm. One thing is for sure, this ride will be a fun day out, but you will get a real sense of what it is to be in this glorious region.

Gold Coast

The problem with the Gold Coast is that there is SO much to do, and naming just one bike ride is the biggest challenge we have had to undertake at Ezriderz HQ. But, after much consultation and a few disagreements, we have all decided that the Darren Smith Memorial Route is the best way to take in the Gold Coast, on a bike that is.

Home and birthplace to many fantastic attractions, theme parks, gold bikinied meter maids in the 70s, and high rises that take your breath away, the Goldie is one of the most incredible stretches of beaches globally. Spanning for over 50 km and with golden sands that sting your eyes, the infrastructure on the Gold Coast is second to none. The Darren Smith Memorial Route takes in 46 km of the coast and winds its way through beachside suburbs, long stretches of sand where you can take a dip to refresh, grab a bite to eat and take in a well-deserved bevvy at the Coolangatta Hotel at the end. If you can't take in the entire day, just do some at your leisure. The best thing about this bike trail is that there are services everywhere; it's flat, very accessible for everyone, and there are dedicated bike lanes for your safety. It indeed is a good day out.

Brisbane

Brisbane has grown up, and the infrastructure and services make a day out on your ebike well worth it. The tricky thing to do is choose the top ride out of all of them; one thing is for sure, Brisbane is really maximising their great weather, cosmopolitan vibe and the river. So it is our recommendation that you take a few days to explore, start in the centre of town, and go North, South, East and West, get to know the inner city suburbs, all on your Ezriderz ebike.

But if you really want to know what takes our breath away, it is the River Loop to Mt Coot-tha bike trail. Think abut starting at Howard Smith Wharves, and then ride through the beautiful Brisbane Botanical Gardens, along the river bank to stunning Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens. The scenery up there is breathtaking, a piece of nature in the city.
